I haven’t really had that good of a look at tonight’s slate, but as of right now it is looking like one of the best slates of the season. My preferred strategy when it comes to NBA lineup building is the stars-scrubs approach. What I especially like about this slate is how it is tailored perfectly to that strategy. There are tons of superstars in great spots and even better value plays. Given the sheer amount of strong value plays, most of them will end up flying under the radar. There are also plenty of injury situations that could end up making or breaking the slate.

The big news in the NBA right now is the Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons blockbuster trade. Both teams involved in the trade are playing tonight and that leads to some interesting situations. All of the players involved in the trade will likely not be suiting up tonight. That means plenty of usage will be up for grabs on both teams and a mini fantasy goldmine will be created.

This is only a first reaction to the players on a given slate. If you would like a FanDuel Daily Fantasy Basketball lineup, you can purchase one below. Also, our year-long pass is now available for 2018-2019. The year-long pass gives you a lineup a day for each day of the year for each sport and is only $299.99.

Due to how perfectly the stars/scrubs strategy applies to this slate, I changed the format for today’s article.

Point Guard, Star: $12,500 Russell Westbrook- My two favorite stars on this slate are easily Westbrook and Anthony Davis. It will be difficult for me to make a lineup without rostering at least one of them. Whenever Russ is one of his superhuman hot streaks, you want to try to ride it out for as long as you can. He can be a streaky player at times, but when he’s on, he is on. He dropped 46 real points on the Washington Wizards the other night yet the Wizards had John Wall in that game. With Wall doubtful to play, Russ has an even easier path to a big game. Combine his ability to attain triple-doubles, rack up peripheral stats, and drop 50 real points in any given game, and you have a player capable of winning you a tournament.

Shooting Guard, Star: $12,100 James Harden- In my opinion this play hinges entirely on the availability of Chris Paul. If Paul is unable to suit up, Harden would immediately be vaulted into must-play status. However, if Paul decides to give it a go and play, Harden would still be a strong play, but not as great of a play as he would have been if Paul was on the sidelines. Given the amount of other superstars on the slate, ownership on Harden will be lower than it normally would be.

Shooting Guard, Not-Scrub: $5,900 Buddy Hield- Hield makes for an intriguing tournament play tonight for four reasons. Reason number one: his volatile style of play makes him the perfect player for tournaments. Reason number two: ownership on him should be very low after he flopped the other night when he was the chalk. Reason number three: the revenge narrative is firmly in play for him given how the New Orleans Pelicans traded him away last year. Reason number four: he draws a matchup with the New Orleans Pelicans’ atrocious wing defense.

Small Forward, Not-Scrub: $3,800 Reggie Bullock- As I stated earlier, it will be interesting to see how the Detroit Pistons go about their lineup tonight. They shipped two starters off to Los Angeles so that means there will be two new starters for tonight’s game. As of right now I expect that starting lineup to be Ish Smith, Reggie Bullock, Stanley Johnson, Anthony Tolliver, and Andre Drummond. Each of those players are strong plays, but one stands out for me. That player is Reggie Bullock. He should be their primary wing scorer given the absences of Avery Bradley and Tobias Harris. That amount of usage he should be seeing makes him a near must-play, but the reasons for playing him don’t stop there. Bullock has been in excellent form recently and should be able to build off of previous strong performances. Also, he draws a mouth-watering matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers and their sieve-like defense.

Power Forward, Star: $12,500 Anthony Davis- Opposing big men have fared well against the Sacramento Kings and Davis should be able to do the same. He is one of the best in the business and has shown that he is able to coexist alongside DeMarcus Cousins. However, with Cousins going down with a season-ending injury, Davis becomes an even better play. He played his first game without Cousins on Sunday, and while he got off to a rather slow start, he finished strong with 59.4 fantasy points. I fully expect him to surpass that number tonight.

Center, Not-Scrub: $5,900 Jonas Valanciunas- When will Dwane Casey and the Toronto Raptors decide to give Valanciunas more time on the court? He has been absolutely killing it recently and has done more in under 28 minutes than most players can do in 40. He was able to drop 28 points and 14 rebounds against Rudy Gobert and the Utah Jazz a couple nights ago, so odds are he should be able to dominate yet again against Karl-Anthony Towns and the Timberwolves’ paucity of interior defense.
