Tonights main slate on FanDuel only features five games, which means being contrarian will be very important. In this article I will be highlighting my favorite players at each position. If you would like to receive an algorithm-produced optimal daily fantasy baseball lineup, you can purchase one below.
Pitcher: $9,100 Gerrit Cole- Cole had a stellar outing in his first game as an Astro and you can expect more of the same tonight. The San Diego Padres are one of the softest-hitting teams in the league, and that bodes well for him. Not only is he an excellent tournament play because of his strikeout potential, but he is also a strong cash game play because of his high ceiling. Other than Cole there isn’t really another pitcher that stands out on the main slate, so it is a good thing that you only have to pick one on FanDuel.
Catcher/First Base: $5,100 Freddie Freeman- Not only does Freeman draw a matchup with Chad Bettis, but he will be playing in the thin air of Coors Field. While his price is very high, there is enough value on the slate to justify his large price tag. Freeman offers both a high floor and a lofty ceiling.
Second Base: $2,800 Scooter Gennett- Gennett has one of the highest ceilings of any player in the MLB. He showcased that lofty ceiling when he tied the all-time record with four home runs in a single game. While you shouldn’t expect him to ever repeat that performance, he is still an intriguing tournament play anytime he steps onto the diamond and is facing a righty. His price tag is also way too low for the amount of value he offers. Chad Kuhl is not a pitcher you should be afraid of and that puts a Reds team stack in the equation.
Third Base: $2,500 Luis Valbuena- Valbuena is one of those aforementioned value plays. He isn’t the best player for cash games, but he is an intriguing tournament play given his propensity to hit home runs.
Shortstop: $4,500 Carlos Correa- Correa is developing into a full-fledged superstar both in real life and in fantasy. Albeit the fact that he is a righty himself, he has performed better against right handed pitchers to start out his season. Correa carries a high price tag, but that price tag is worth it because of his floor and sky-high ceiling.
Outfield: $2,600 Matt Joyce- This is a pick that should fly under the radar in tonights large slate. You will need to find salary relief somewhere in order to pay up for the players you want, and Joyce offers that. He performs much better against right handed pitchers and will be facing an inexperienced one in JC Ramirez.
