Tonights main slate on FanDuel features ten games, which means being contrarian won’t be as important as it usually is since ownership will be dispersed across each player. In this article I will be highlighting my favorite players at each position. If you would like to receive an algorithm-produced optimal daily fantasy baseball lineup, you can purchase one below.
Pitcher: $9,100 Charlie Morton- Morton had a stellar outing in his first game of the season and you can expect more of the same tonight. The San Diego Padres are one of the softest-hitting teams in the league, and that bodes well for him. Not only is he an excellent tournament play because of his strikeout potential, but he is also a strong cash game play because of his high ceiling. Other than Morton there isn’t really another pitcher that stands out on the slate, so it is a good thing that you only have to pick one on FanDuel.
Catcher/First Base: $3,800 Josh Bell- Even though Bell is a switch hitter, he has performed better against right handed pitchers to start his career. Thankfully he draws a matchup with a subpar righty in Tyler Mahle. Bell isn’t the best option when it comes to cash games, but he is an intriguing tournament play given his propensity to hit home runs.
Second Base: $4,500 Brian Dozier- Dozier has gotten off to a strong start to the season and he should continue to roll against Marco Gonzales. Dozier should have his way with the subpar lefty Gonzales and is one of the top pay-up options on the entire slate. There aren’t that many strong options at second base, which only makes playing Dozier more enticing.
Third Base: $3,500 Jose Ramirez- Ramirez has been dreadful to start the season (as evidenced by his .067 batting average). Nevertheless, he has a slump breaking matchup with Jason Hammel and his price tag is way too low. It also doesn’t hurt that he should come with very low ownership. Given his floor/ceiling combination he makes sense in both cash games and tournaments.
Shortstop: $4,600 Didi Gregorius- Gregorius has gotten off to one of the best starts of any player in the MLB this season. He is averaging 20.8 fantasy points through nine games and his price tag has adjusted to reflect that. However, he is still a strong play regardless of the spike in price.
Outfield: $3,400 Andrew Benintendi- Benintendi will hope to avoid falling into a sophomore slump after an outstanding rookie season. He absolutely crushes righties and draws a matchup with a subpar one in Andrew Kittredge. Not only does Benintendi offer a lofty ceiling, but he also offers a relatively high floor.
