Yesterday’s main slate was abysmal when it came to pitchers, but thankfully tonight has a plethora of strong options. In this article I will be highlighting my favorite players at each position. If you have any questions about the slate or a certain player, feel free to comment below or reach out to me on twitter @jackstatsblog. If you would like to receive an algorithm-produced optimal daily fantasy baseball lineup, you can purchase one below.
Pitcher: $10,100 Luis Severino- Severino put together back to back stellar outings to start the year, but then was hit hard in his most recent start against the Boston Red Sox. Luckily he draws a matchup with a far less potent offense in the Detroit Tigers. Not only is he an excellent tournament play because of his strikeout potential, but he is also a strong cash game play because of his high ceiling. However, you will want to make sure the weather holds up in Detroit as there is a chance the game will have to be postponed.
Catcher/First Base: $2,800 Justin Bour- This price tag feels way too low for the amount of potential Bour brings to the table. While he hasn’t yet shed the “tournaments only” label, he sort of viable in cash games. Freddie Freeman is another strong play if you have the money to pay up for him.
Second Base: $3,000 Howie Kendrick- Given how expensive the good pitching options are today, it is important to find value wherever possible. Kendrick is a great value play as he makes sense in both cash games and tournaments. Of the two, I slightly prefer him in cash games, but he is viable in GPP’s as well.
Third Base: $3,100 Colin Moran- Moran has turned a couple heads with his outstanding play to start the season and is strong play should carry over for today. He has flashed potential this season and that makes him viable in tournaments.
Shortstop: $3,900 Zach Cozart- The Los Angeles Angels have enjoyed a great start to the season and Cozart has been an important part of their success. He performs much better against southpaws and he gets the luxury of facing a subpar one in Erik Skoglund. Because of how well they perform against lefties, the Angels are the top team stack of the day.
Outfield: $4,100 Justin Upton- Upton, another member of the Angels, is a lefty masher that should destroy Skoglund. He is a tad expensive, but there is enough value at other positions to justify paying up for him.
