The two players that I had the most exposure to last night were Freddy Peralta and J.D. Martinez. Both players had excellent performances (especially Peralta) and I was glad that my confidence in them was justified.

I am pleased to announce a partnership with a new daily fantasy sports site, ThriveFantasy. ThriveFantasy is a DFS site that takes all the hassle and stress out of making a lineup. It takes less than five minutes to make a lineup for their site and you don’t need to worry about possible game cancellations or players getting scratched from the lineup at the last second since Thrive has a system that solves that issue.

Sign up and make a deposit (min $10) using the following link to receive $5 credit: bit.ly/JackStats. Also, if you send me your results from your first contest on Thrive Fantasy, you will receive a free week-long daily fantasy baseball advice package (you can send me this via email, jackstatsblog@gmail.com, or through Twitter @jackstatsblog).

Pitcher: $8,300 Kyle Gibson- This has got to be one of the worst slates pitching-wise of the entire season so far. You know things are bad when the pitcher I have the most confidence in is Kyle Gibson. Madison Bumgarner and Robbie Ray are the top pitching talents on the slate, but the former is too expensive in a difficult matchup and the latter is likely going to be on a strict pitch limit. Because of those flaws in the aforementioned pitchers, Gibson emerges as the clear-cut premier option. His matchup with the Chicago White Sox is one of the best matchups a pitcher could ask for, so he should have no problem finding success. Since he isn’t much of a strikeout pitcher, I prefer him in cash games but he is viable in tournaments as well.

First Base: $3,800 Matt Olson- Olson is a rather unheralded play but that works in his favor when it comes to tournaments. He is perpetually low owned and that makes him an excellent contrarian play that has the potential to win you a tournament. The nature of his game also translates well to tournaments as he has plenty of power but he also strikes out at a high rate. He is one of my favorite tournament plays but I will be avoiding him in cash games.

Outfield: $2,900 Hunter Renfroe- Speaking of strong tournament plays, Renfroe might just be my favorite on the entire slate. I seem to plug him into my lineup anytime he is facing a subpar lefty (which he is tonight) and that strategy hasn’t backfired on me yet. His matchup with Mike Minor is one that he should take advantage of. However, due to the volatile nature of his play, I will be fading him in cash games but loading up on him in tournaments.
