I hope that everyone had an excellent Fourth of July! We have an eight game slate on tap for tonight and in my opinion it is the perfect slate size. There are plenty of options to choose from but being contrarian will still be important.

Pitcher: $12,200 Justin Verlander- Verlander has been one of the premier arms in the MLB ever since he became a Houston Astro. He couldn’t ask for a better matchup than one with the abysmal Chicago White Sox. There isn’t a single hitter on the White Sox that I am afraid of and that bodes well for Verlander. Verlander will be highly owned but rightfully so since he is easily the top pitching option on the slate.
First Base: $2,700 Logan Morrison- I haven’t rostered Morrison that often this season but this is the perfect opportunity to do so. He draws a mouth-watering matchup with David Hess and his 6.06 ERA. Due to the volatile nature of his game, Morrison is best suited for tournaments and should be avoided in cash games.
Outfield: $3,700 Justin Upton- Upton has had a decent season so far but he hasn’t found the same success that he did last year. He has historically performed far better against left handed pitching so luckily he will be facing the lefty Marco Gonzales. He is viable in both cash games and tournaments but I slightly prefer him in cash games since he should carry rather high ownership.
